If you are under the weight of debt there is an answer. With a little debt and credit counseling you will finally reach the surface you have been struggling to find for so long.

The best thing for you to do before you can reduce debt with credit counseling is research and find out everything you can, education is the best defense against bad debt that you can possess. However, before you choose a specific credit counseling service, you will want to do your research on them as well. What should you look for? Here are some things to look for in any company that claims to reduce debt with credit counseling.

First, make sure that they are a reputable company. If you are on the internet, conduct a search on that specific company and see what others are saying. Now, keep in mind that not everyone will agree or even like the same company, so take comments both negative and positive into consideration. However, if you see a lot of negatives and only a few positives, that should be a red flag for you.

Also, ask your friends and family members if they were able to reduce debt with credit counseling and what company they chose. If they were happy with the company and their services you should take that into consideration as well. The opinions of people you know and trust are much more valuable than strangers on the internet.

Make sure the company is licensed and experienced. The license is not always required, depending on where they operate their business; however, you do want a company that knows what they are doing. Do your research.

Watch for any hidden fees or companies that claim their free, then ask you to donate money. This is another red flag, the whole point in coming to the company in the first place is to reduce debt with credit counseling, not to dig yourself into further debt.

Check with the BBB (Better Business Bureau), find out if any complaints have been filed against that credit counseling company. You also want to find out exactly how the complaints were solved as well.

Lastly, make sure you choose a company you feel comfortable with. If after talking with the credit counselors, you do not feel they will help you reduce debt with credit counseling, you should find another company instead. If you do feel comfortable with the company, then chances are your gut instincts are right.
